A man has been arrested in Springfield after admitting to setting his girlfriend's car on fire late Sunday night.
Fire officials responded to a report of a fire outside of 221 Hancock St. after 11 p.m. on Sunday. When they arrived on scene flames were shooting out of a 1998 Nisan Altima.
The car was destroyed. According to officials, Carlos Merced admitted to setting the fire after a dispute with his girlfriend.
He is charged with arson and assault and battery.
Merced will be arraigned on Tuesday.
