Car crash knocks out power in Springfield early Sunday morning

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

An early Sunday morning single-car crash left about 100 customers without power for several hours.

According to CBS 3 media partner Mass Live and The Republican, the vehicle crashed into a utility pole on Parker Street at about 5:30 a.m.

Crews were still on scene at about noon working to fix the outage.

Just after 5 p.m., the Western Massachusetts Electic Company's outage map showed over 600 customers without power in Springfield.

As of 10 p.m., that number was down into the low 80s.

We left a message for WMECo but our call was not returned.

The Springfield Police Department told CBS 3 that a tree was down earlier this evening, but they could not be sure that was the cause of the more recent outage.
