PALMER, MA (WSHM) -

PALMER, MA (WSHM) - Mohegan Sun Massachusetts teamed up with Town Manager Charlie Blanchard for signing ceremony for its host community agreement with the town of Palmer Thursday morning.

The ceremony took place at the Palmer Town Library.

Once the agreement is signed, it will need to be approved by the Town Council. Members of the council will review the agreement on Tuesday, Sept. 3. They will then take a formal vote and set a timetable for a local referendum election.

According to Mohegan officials, the $15.2 million annual payment will nearly double what Palmer takes in for taxes each year.

During a press briefing that was held after the ceremony, officials said the next step in the process is to negotiate the agreements with neighboring towns.

Officials said the resort will feature two hotels, a 70,000 square foot adventure-themed water park, 300,000 square feet of top notch entertainment, dining and fashion retail options and premier gaming and resort amenities.
