Homes evacuated in Hadley after propane tank leak

Posted: Updated:
HADLEY, MA (WSHM) -

Several Hadley homes had to be evacuated Tuesday night on Route 47, or River Drive, as someone drove over their underground propane tank, sheering off the valve.

Fire officials say that the call came in around 6 p.m. from the resident.

Emergency crews responded and evacuated that home and several others as the 1,000 gallon tank vented.

Sunderland fire crews were also called in to assist and clean up.

Route 47 was closed for nearly two hours as crews responded.

No one was injured and a gas crew was called in to stabilize the tank for the night.
