A late night crash Saturday in Middletown sent five to area hospitals with serious injuries, officials said.
According to Middletown Police, the crash occurred at 11:45 p.m. at the intersection of Washington Street and Old Mill Road. Police said a Mitsubishi Gallant crossed over the double yellow line and struck a red pickup truck.
The operator of the Mitsubishi, 19-year-old Joseph Durkin, was traveling east on Route 66 when his vehicle crossed the centerline striking a Chevrolet Silverado being operated by 21-year-old Holden Andeen.
Andeen and his passenger, Cameron Bailey, 21 of Haddam were extricated from the Silverado by the Middletown Fire Department and transported to area hospitals for treatment of serious injuries.
Durkin, along with his two passengers, Andre Bonvouloir, 19 of Middletown, and Danielle Whalen, 18 of Middletown, were extricated from the Mitsubishi. Whalen and Durkin were transported to area hospitals for treatment of serious injuries.
Bonvouloir was transported to Hartford Hospital via LifeStar for treatment of serious injuries.
Route 66 between Old Mill Road and Boston Road was closed for six hours while police investigate the crash.
