Governor Deval Patrick is giving Westfield State University 30 days to fully release audits on spending that the university is compiling.
Last month it came to light that the University President, Evan Dobelle's spending was being investigated by the office of the Inspector General.
That spending is allegedly related to class trips taken around the world. Dobelle told CBS 3 at a meeting last month by the board of trustees that the spending is legitimate.
In a letter sent to CS 3 Springfield, Education Secretary Matthew Malone says in part:
"Governor Patrick and I share a firm belief in the critical mission of higher education. However, the issues raised call into question the efficient and effective use of taxpayer funds, and undermine the good and important work taking place on our state campuses throughout the commonwealth."
Malone goes on to say that the governor has directed him to get a personal briefing of those audits.
