KINGMAN, AZ (CBS5) -

A Mohave County sheriff's deputy shot and killed a Kingman man after a struggle, during a domestic violence call early Friday morning.

The erratic-acting suspect, later identified as Blake Allen Barbour, 43, was threatening family members and trying to force his way into a home in the 2900 block of Packard Avenue, when the deputy arrived about 6:15 a.m., said Tish Carter of the Mohave County Sheriff's Office.

The deputy used a stun gun several times on Barbour, but he became more combative, wrestled away the deputy's baton and began swinging it wildly while approaching the deputy, Carter said.

The deputy called out several warnings before firing and hitting the suspect, who was taken to Kingman Regional Medical Center, Carter said.

Mohave County confirmed Friday afternoon that Barbour died in the hospital.

The deputy, Jace Reif, 27, was placed on paid administrative leave, pending the outcome of the investigation by the Bullhead City Police Department, Carter said.

According to Mohave County, Reif worked as a detention officer for five years at the Mohave County Jail and for 3 1/2 years as a patrol deputy.
