PEORIA, AZ (CBS5) -

Police in Surprise arrested a man after a lengthy standoff with their SWAT team Thursday afternoon.

Officers said Paul Alegria III assaulted his ex-girlfriend in the area of 14900 West Parkwood Drive. The woman ran out of the house with two children.

When police got there, Alegria locked himself inside and even waved a gun through a window, police said.

Bus routes for Kingswood Elementary School even had to change routes to avoid that area.

No one was hurt.

Alegria was booked into jail on several domestic violence related charges.
