(RNN) - Ariel Castro pleaded guilty to 937 charges and was sentenced to life plus 1,000 years in prison for kidnapping and holding captive three Cleveland-area women for 10 years.

On Thursday, Castro pleaded guilty to charges that included murder, kidnapping and rape in order to have the death penalty taken off the table. Michelle Knight, one of the victims, made a statement in person during the sentencing.

Bradley Manning, accused of leaking classified information, was found not guilty of aiding the enemy but guilty of violating the Espionage Act. Manning has been in custody for three years and faces up to a maximum 136 years in prison.

New York Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez is facing new accusations of using performance-enhancing drugs. He and Major League Baseball are reportedly working out a suspension deal, according to ESPN and CNN.
