A man was arrested Tuesday evening after attempting to cash a stolen check.
According to Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney, Marcus Cadogan, 22, entered the TD Bank located on 958 State Street at around 5:45 p.m.
Delaney said Cadogan walked up to the teller and gave her a check to be cashed in the amount of $3,000. According to Delaney the teller made a phone call to verify if the check belonged to Cadogan and it was confirmed the check was stolen.
Authorities said the teller then got the attention of Springfield Police Officer David Standen, who was working on security duty at the time. As Standen walked over to the counter, Cadogen ran out of the bank as Standen chased him and called for backup.
Police said Standen and another officer who had joined in on the foot pursuit, chased the suspect to 115 Westford Circle. According to Delaney, Cadogan's mom answered the door and let the officers inside.
Delaney said, after an unsuccessful search, officers let their K-9, Fix loose in the home and quickly found Cadogan hiding in the attic.
Cadogan was arrested and charged with uttering a false check, receiving stolen property and forgery of a check.
Delaney said the checks were reported stolen from a house that was broken into in Springfield on July 13. Cadogan is also a suspect in this case.
