With temperatures in the 90s Thursday, many people in Springfield got to cool off with a lemonade for a great cause.
The Northwestern Mutual Springfield group teamed up with Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation for a fundraising event.
The foundation is a national fundraising movement to raise money for childhood cancer research.
The Northwestern Mutual team set up a lemonade stand in front of their building for much of the afternoon. The lemonade was free and donations were accepted to help bring an end to the pediatric illness.
"I think that we have the power behind us with our huge sales force, our company that is so philanthropic, to really move the needle on this. We wanted something that we could really impact and I think with our field staff, as I said, I think this is an excellent project for us," said Diane Barnes, the director of operations at Northwestern Mutual.
The goal of the day was to raise around $1,000 for the organization.
