LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – It was a desperate call on the afternoon of July 10 that brought St. Matthews Police to the 400 block of Deerfield Lane.
"I tried to call 911 but I couldn't get through, or no one was picking up," said the caller.
The caller told St. Matthews police that two brothers had been playing on Deerfield Lane in Windy Hills, but one hadn't returned.
"They were on their way back home and my wife was telling me they had gone, and Nathan came back, and can't find his brother." He told police.
The neighbor then tells police that Zackery Foree's father can't find his son.
"He has black hair, a red shirt on, glasses, but there are trees down everywhere," said the neighbor. "I don't know if he got caught under a tree or what."
A short time later, Foree's father and another neighbor found Zack, 13, on the ground by the scooter he was rushing home on. A large tree limb had fallen on top of him. The two men lifted the limb with a small car jack to free Zack.
After being taken initially to Baptist Health Louisville in St. Matthews, Zack was rushed downtown to Kosair Children's Hospital where he later passed away.
Zack Foree was laid to rest today. He would have been in 8th grade at Kammerer Middle School this fall.
