Connecticut State Police said they are investigating the death of a 3-year-old girl in Willimantic and have charged a man with assault in connection with the case.
State police said that around 10:30 p.m., they were called to 11 Potter St. after the child was found unresponsive.
"I heard one of my roommates yelling, 'Help me! Nevie's not breathing. She's not breathing. Come downstairs,'" Robert Trevorrow said. "So I flew downstairs and started CPR until the ambulance showed up."
The child was brought to Windham County Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The home was secured by police and the incident is being investigated by the Connecticut State Police Eastern District Major Crime along with the Willimantic Police Department and the Windham County State Attorney's Office.
State police arrested 29-year-old Carroll Bumgarner Ramos Friday afternoon and charged him with first-degree assault in connection with the case. His address is listed as the same building where the child and her mother live, but police have not said what their relationship is.
Anyone with information is requested to contact the Connecticut State or Willimantic police.
