Thousands braved the possibility of rain downtown early Saturday to enjoy the 25th annual World's Largest Pancake Breakfast.
The event, put on each year by the Spirit of Springfield, celebrates the city's founding on May 14, 1636.
According to the group's website, the recipe to make the amount of pancakes needed includes nearly 3,500 pounds of flour, 800 pounds of eggs, 350 pounds of butter and 450 gallons of water.
"It is great," said Gene Lussier, who was enjoying the breakfast for the first time with his father. "It is more the spirit of the thing, to see the people get out and enjoy the city. My father, being 92, I thought it would be a great experience with some more bonding."
Those in attendance did not have to look hard to find the CBS 3 Springfield crew.
Our staff was busy cooking and serving up the pancakes out on Main Street beginning at 8 a.m.
The event lasted a little over three hours.
