The state's highest court is deciding whether special magistrates handling the state lab scandal cases may release convicts on bail before they're granted new trials.
Former chemist Annie Dookhan has been charged with faking drug test results and tampering with evidence at the Boston lab where she pleaded not guilty.
The Essex County District Attorney's Office doesn't want to let convicts out on bail, but the American Civil Liberties Union and the state's Public Defender Agency say defendants deserve immediate relief.
