Federal prosecutors say five men who were in the United States illegally have been sentenced for their roles in holding 21 people hostage.
Three of the men received the maximum 10-year prison sentence. Authorities say 24-year-old Juan Jose Parra-Labrador, 25-year-old Sergio Sarabia-Sarabia and 25-year-old Uriel Parra-Lerma had pleaded guilty to conspiracy to harbor others who were in the country illegally.
Another defendant, 43-year-old Felipe Sarabia-Labrador, was given a sentence of 9 years and 1 month in prison.
Prosecutors say one victim had been hanged by his wrists and ankles in a stash house closet while others were beaten, bound with cable cords and threatened with knives.
Another man -- 30-year-old Aaron Aparicio-Ramirez -- was sentenced to 18 months in prison for transporting the group to and from the stash house.
