Four New England skating centers teamed up on Sunday to hold benefit skates for One Fund Boston.
That included Interskate 91 South in Wilbraham and Interskate 91 North in Hadley.
During a five-hour window, the skating centers donated 100 percent of the paid admissions to the Boston fund.
Organizers told CBS 3 that even though they were not directly affected by the tragedy, they felt the need to help.
"The rink industry is a very tight-knit community," said Brittany Vail, operations manager at Interskate 91 South. "We know rink owners in Boston and we are all connected in some way. We all knew people at the marathon, people running in the marathon. When we found out about the One Fund and what they were doing, we just wanted to jump on board too. We wanted to play our part and give back to the community as best we could."
Besides the two Western Mass rinks, the others that participated on Sunday were Fun America in Lancaster and United Skates in Providence, RI.
