WESTFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

Athletes from all across the country, and some from even as far away as Canada, are in Westfield this weekend for the 15th annual New England sled hockey tournament.

All weekend, athletes will be playing at Amelia Park Ice Rink.

The first games started Friday afternoon.

Players say sled hockey allows even disabled athletes to get involved with the sport.

"Sled hockey is a lot like able-bodied hockey. It's ice time, get out there, get on the ice, get comfortable with the sled, handing the puck, skating around, shooting, passing," said paralympian Kip St. Germaine.

"Whether it's people who are paralyzed or have no legs, as long as you have the desire to play, anyone can play. It's a lot of fun," said Kyle Zych of South Hadley.

The playoffs will be on Sunday afternoon.
