Overnight garage fire in Springfield considered suspicious

Posted: Updated:
SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

Investigators are looking into what they are calling a suspicious garage fire.

Firefighters were called to 35 Leete St. at about 2:35 a.m. on Sunday, when a three-car detached garage was on fire.

Dennis Leger, aide to Fire Commissioner Joseph Conant, told CBS 3 that there is approximately $20,000 in damage and one car was destroyed.

Five families had to be temporarily evacuated, but the fire did not spread to either of the nearby homes.

Leger said it is suspicious because there is no electricity feeding into the garage.
