A 20-year-old UMass student is alive following what police are calling an 80' to 85'-foot fall at Mount Sugar Loaf State Reservation.
Sgt. Harry Ruddock of the Deerfield Police Department told CBS 3 that the young man was on a hiking trip with his fraternity brothers.
He was too close to the edge, slipped and fell.
Several different departments were called in to rescue the victim, including the Greenfield High Angle Extrication team.
Once he was rescued, the victim was airlifted to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester with non-life-threatening injuries.
Ruddock said there was no alcohol involved.
