One week after touring Springfield District Court, Governor's Councilors Mike Albano and Robert Jubinville are asking for a special appropriation from the state legislature.
In a letter to the House speaker, the councilors say the backlog in the court has a direct impact on crime in the region and has hindered economic development.
They said the court is routinely down two to four judges per day and currently has 36 vacancies in the Offices of Probation and the Clerk Magistrate.
Albano and Jubinville plan to tour the district courts in Holyoke and Northampton on May 17.
