Since the Newtown tragedy, school safety has also been high up on the agenda, including Hartford where an active shooter drill inside the Waverly School.
The active shooter drill was an opportunity to see how officers would react if a real life gunman was on the loose.
During the simulation, school officials were also tested.
"The principal pressed the panic button, that goes right to the police department, that activated the mutual link system and the camera system began to operate," said Hartford Police Lt. Brian Foley.
The gunman was found hiding in the kindergarten room at the school during the simulation.
"This is just another example folks of how you're city is progressing and we're working with other people in our city," said Hartford Police Chief James Rovella.
