Western Mass residents made their way into local churches across the Pioneer Valley Sunday morning, including the hundreds that took in Easter Mass at St. Michael's Cathedral.
The holiday celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ and is considered to be one of, if not the holiest day of the year for Christians.
Those attending Mass told CBS 3 that it is a special day for them and their families.
"It is something that brings out a bigger crowd," said Springfield resident Erik Correa. "I think people want to make up and catch up on what they have missed. For me personally it is just a very special day as far as the Lord giving us this day and the sacrifice the Lord made giving us this sun."
Easter Sunday capped off "holy week," which is the final week of Lent.
