SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

A large nor'easter that is pummeling the mid-Atlantic will spare much of Western Massachusetts, though CBS 3 meteorologist Nick Morganelli says it will still bring some snow to our area.

Morganelli says the region will be on the northern edge of the precipitation shield, which means that we will have cold enough air to receive snow.

Much of the valley should expect light snow on Wednesday, though higher elevations could see several inches of snow by midday Thursday. The most snow is expected in the hill towns east of the Connecticut River Valley. Worcester County will see more than 6 inches of snow.

The storm is expected to wind down during the day Thursday, with temperatures near 35. Snow may continue at elevations above 500 feet into early Friday.
