Deputies said a burglar startled by a boy's scream got away before they arrived at a Spartanburg home on Monday.
Spartanburg County deputies were called to a home off of Augusta Road about 5 a.m. after a woman reported someone tried to break into her family's home.
The woman told deputies she awoke to the sound of the front door opening and thought it was her husband.
Jessica Edge spoke with FOX Carolina on Monday and said her son Jayden's screams and crying let her know something was serious.
After the scream, she heard the front door slam shut then spotted someone run around the side of their house and towards the road, but when investigators tried to track the burglar, they did not find anyone.
"If he wouldn't have screamed, the man could've come in and did anything you know," Edge said. "But he screamed, run him off. And I'm just so thankful that it happened."
For helping save his family, Edge said they will likely throw Jayden a party at Chuck E. Cheese sometime soon.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
