The Production/Engineering Specialist operates studio and remote production equipment including automated video/audio production systems, wireless microphone systems, audio and video routers, lighting kits, video servers, and video archive data bases. This position supports news, promotion, sales, and programming with a commitment to the production of high quality and error free programs and events. Position provides production direction to news room staff and field crews regarding content, coordination and newscast execution. This position will contribute to the day-to-day on-air look and quality of the newscast to attract the largest available audience to the station.
Essential Job Functions
70% - Operates automated control room system, studio/remote cameras, broadcast graphics and other related television production equipment including teleprompters, microphones, and lighting. Coordinates and triggers internal and external commercial breaks. Coordinates breaking news and executes live and taped productions in the control room. Edits and sends topical promos to master control. Archive newscast video to server archive. Execute preventative measures on control room equipment and systems. Monitors and works creatively to constantly improve and evolve the look and execution of newscasts.
20% - Identify technical issues and/or technical improvements relating to broadcast quality and work-flow. Learn technical equipment and server functions and assist installations. Work with Technical Manager to solve issues and implement improvements. Provide continuous feedback on progress to Technical Manager.
10% Create news graphics and effects for newscasts and productions. Help news staff understand and correctly implement new elements into show rundowns.
Minimum Qualifications: All must be met to be considered.
Completion of high School, or equivalent. College degree or equivalent technical school degree/diploma in Broadcasting, electronics or related field.
Minimum of 2 years experience directing or production support experience for television or cable station.
Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
A broad and thorough knowledge of television production equipment. Proficiency with automated video/audio production systems, studio/field cameras, broadcast graphics systems, and video server operations. Ability to shoot on P2 and edit video for newscasts. Strong computer knowledge required. Effective communication skills. Ability to focus on coordination of daily and long range segments from first contact to on-air product. Ability to react in a fast-paced production news environment, take direction with composure and professionalism. Ability to work with ladders for lighting grids and lift heavy equipment when necessary. Microwave/satellite truck experience is a plus.
Available to work weekends and holidays as necessary; as well as, cover vacations. Must possess a valid Driver's License.
