Almeda University (AU) has become a member of AERO - Alternative Education Resource Organization. AU brings adult alternative degree choices and AERO promotes alternative education choices for our schools – a perfect synergy.
San Juan, PR (PRWEB) February 27, 2013
Almeda University is proud to announce its membership in AERO - Alternative Education Resource Organization (AERO). AERO’s goal is to advance student-driven, learner-centered approaches to education from grades K-12. The Board of Almeda University reviewed the organization’s educational principles and felt there was a perfect synergy with the goals and mission of Almeda University (AU). AU’s alumni have shared equal alternative paths to education with their advance degrees.
According to Almeda University’s Director Richard Smith, many AU Alumni members have become leaders and staunch advocates of alternative education that includes grammar and high schools too. This was one of the key factors of AU’s membership with AERO. Smith felt it was time that Almeda University listened to their alumni’s voices, because they are also a strong growing movement of parents who want new approaches to educational programs for their children. Michele Guttenberger who manages AU’s LinkedIn Alumni group noticed continued discussions by alumni members who wanted AU to have broader affiliations to other communities of practice that endorsed alternative and Life Experience Degrees and education. Despite this active alumni social network (approximately 3,000), they wanted to hear the perspectives and endorsements from other groups of their own ilk. This is a network of people who want these alternative choices to be recognized and accepted as valid paths to learning regardless of the space and organizational structure of their learning classroom. Guttenberger had asked Smith of AU’s other affiliations to expand their dialogue on their professional social network. This is when the light bulb was turned on and Smith realized that AU should endorse other organizations that provide alternative education during the years before college.
AU represents educational choices for adults and recognizes a dynamic and experiential approach to the achievement of higher knowledge. Almeda University embraces educational choices and today it is standing behind organizations that help foster homeschooling, public and private alternative schools, and charter schools. It also realizes their groundbreaking work and their challenge receiving the public’s regard against established academia naysayers. AU can identify with these challenges. It was a pioneer of the online campus where instructor and student interaction is 100 percent virtual. Today, this is not considered a radical concept, but it was when their online program started in 1997.
Almeda University has had many students pass through their virtual doors, but an impressive number have stuck around finding a common bond with Life Experience degree connections. With a dynamic education also comes dynamic leadership and the Alumni Network has many life coaches who have authored books, created life enrichment programs and have become regarded public media authorities who offer alternative thinking and view the world with a lens that has less bureaucratic blinders.
Maybe Almeda University has continued loyalty by its Alumni because they are part of a private movement for a sensible thesis focused on degree validation. AU also offers adult professional development courses to its alumni at a fraction of the cost of the average online course offerings. This is another factor that has kept their alumni tethered to Almeda University. Almeda University looks forward to sharing the dialogue and forums on the progress of the alternative education movement to its expanding experiential and professional community.
Almeda University is an online institute that has been serving an international alternative learning community since its inception in 1997. For nearly 16 years, Almeda has evolved into an expanding population by providing a cutting edge curriculum design based on the needs of adult students and professionals.
