Enterprise portal leader grows revenue by more than 50 percent in 2012.

The open source leader, whose revenue is mainly derived from sales of Liferay Portal Enterprise Edition (EE), its flagship product, saw healthy growth of existing client contracts and key wins in new projects. Last year’s most popular use cases of Liferay Portal were as collaborative intranets and customer portals, notably in the health care and financial services industries.

New offices that opened in the last year in London, Paris, Tokyo, and the U.S. Midwest have been responding quickly to local demand for Liferay’s products and services and have established strategic go-to-market partnerships. For example, Liferay U.K. delivered on a constituent self-service portal for the London Borough of Camden, the French office signed new partner Atos Origin, and the Asia-Pacific team closed major deals in the consumer electronics and telecommunications industries.
Liferay’s open source community also experienced significant growth in size and activity. Liferay’s 56,000 community members in 2011 grew to over 75,000 by the end of last year, and to date the community has already surpassed 80,000 members. The rapid rise in the formation of Liferay’s user groups around the world—last year alone saw 20 user groups form—also points to the strength and vibrancy of Liferay’s ecosystem.
