It was a big day for students and staff at Longmeadow High School. Tuesday, for the first time, classes were held in the new school which was years in the making.
A brief ceremony was held to celebrate the opening of the new facility. The state-of-the-art school has been under construction for almost two years
"It feels like we're just walking in as freshman for the first time even though we've been here for almost four years," said senior Mark Gentile. "It's breathtaking."
"We've have 55 years of tradition and wonderful education in the old facility and we are very much looking forward to moving over today," said Longmeadow High School Principal Larry Berte. "The kids are excited about the activities that we already have and all the opportunities that the new educational facilities that we are going to have to be able to work with."
The old school will be torn down besides a portion of the building that will be renovated. All renovations are expected to be complete by September.
