Hampden County District Attorney Mark Mastroianni has established a new DNA unit to get forensic evidence tested and processed faster in his jurisdiction.
Mastroianni says the new three-member unit will help streamline the evidence process, which involves arranging forensic testing and meeting deadlines so that cases can go to trial quickly.
"Part of the struggle that we have on a daily basis is getting those things done in time, getting the correct testing done, and getting those results back in a time-efficient way. This new unit will be able to do that," said Mastroianni.
Mastroianni says that the new unit will also be charged with identifying specialized DNA testing that the state's crime lab may not be able to complete.
