One person has died after fire broke out at an apartment complex Tuesday afternoon.
Westfield fire officials say the fire started in an apartment on the second floor at General Shepherd Apartments on Thomas Street just after 1:30 p.m.
Elderly residents who lived in the complex were taken to the Westfield Senior Center to stay warm.
According to the Red Cross, eight units were left uninhabitable by the fire, leaving seven people displaced. The Red Cross says it will be finding shelter for two of the victims. The residents were able to retrieve clothing from their apartments.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
