The Chicopee Police Department has three more patrolmen protecting the city streets.
On Tuesday, Mayor Michael Bissonnette and police Chief Thomas Charette held an official swearing-in ceremony at Chicopee City Hall.
John Slachetka, 28, was among the group of new officers selected to the position after graduating from the Massachusetts State Police Academy.
Slachetka is eager to start the job and serve the city of Chicopee.
"I plan on just learning a lot from my fellow officers that have been there already ... let them teach me the ropes around here ... just take any training experience that I've gotten from the police academy and incorporating that," Slachetka said.
Six more recruits are now training in the State Police Academy, and Bissonnette expects the recruits to serve the city by later this summer.
