Faulty cable caused blackout at 'The X' in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

It took about six hours to fix, but we now know the cause of the blackout at 'The X' on Saturday night.

Western Massachusetts Electric Company officials told CBS 3 that a faulty underground cable was to blame.

According to Springfield police, they were aware of the blackout around 8 p.m. Saturday night.

WMECo said crews began working on the issue around 10 p.m. and power was restored shortly before 4 a.m. Sunday morning.
