At about 8 p.m. Saturday, the power went out at the "X" in Springfield, which has been causing traffic problems at the busy intersection.
Capt. Cheryl Claprood told CBS 3 that Western Mass Electric Company would not specify what caused the outage, but she was told it was not going to be an easy fix.
WMECo estimates that it will take approximately eight hours to correct.
Claprood said officers are directing traffic at the intersections and portable stop signs have been put up.
As of 12:20 a.m. on Sunday, WMECo's website reports that 189 customers in Springfield are without power.
