Former U.S. Sen. Scott Brown on political future

AMHERST, MA (WSHM) -

For the first time since announcing he would not be seeking John Kerry's vacant seat in the special election, former Senator Scott Brown spoke out about his decision exclusively to CBS 3 Springfield.

Brown was in town Sunday as the keynote speaker at an Amherst College Republicans event.

"Yes of course I was thinking about it, it was a very difficult decision," Brown told CBS 3.

Brown said his decision not to run in the June 25 special election was not an easy one, but a necessary one.

"It would've required me doing five elections in six years. People forget that I ran in a very heated state senate election, then I did the special, then the general," he said.

Brown told CBS 3 Springfield that not only had five elections taken a toll, but the divide among parties on Capitol Hill was daunting.

"The division down in the U.S. Senate is very very, very partisan and I feel like I can do a better job outside in events like this and traveling throughout the country and the world, talking about things that matter," he said.

One of his new roles may be as a political contributor on FOX News Channel.

The channel has reportedly been in talks with the former Senator.

He says a moderate voice like his is missing from the national conversation.

"Having an opportunity to get out there and be the only moderate voice out there on moderate TV, who else is there?"

And as far as his future in politics, Brown did not immediately rule out a run for governor.

"I know there are a lot of good candidates looking at it, it's something that I really need to recharge the engines and spend some time with my family, I want to learn more about the challenges that businesses are facing."

Since losing his seat to Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren last November, Brown landed a job at a Massachusetts business on the board of directors.

He tells CBS 3 he'll make an announcement regarding a job on FOX News this week.
