KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Police are investigating an armed robbery at downtown gas station.

Authorities said the man entered the Phillips 66 at West Sixth and Wyandotte streets about 11:50 p.m. Saturday and pulled out a handgun, demanding money from the register.

He then ordered the store employee to the back of the store where he tried to gain access to the store's safe, according to police.

The assailant then forced the employee into the bathroom in the back of the store while he escaped out the front, police said.

The suspect is described to be in his 40s between 5'08" to 5'09" tall with a reddish overgrown goatee.  He was also wearing a black Carhart-style jacket and rubber gloves.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
