The New England School Development Council has recommended that the Hampden-Wilbraham Regional School District retain Memorial Elementary School for possible future use.
According to CBS 3 media partner Mass Live and The Republican, the school-age population for the area is predicted to decline over the next few years, but there is a chance of it increasing after 2015.
That would hinge on baby boomers selling their homes and more families with school-age children moving into the area.
The school district stopped using Memorial several years ago to save money, however, it is currently being leased by Cathedral High School, which had its own school severely damaged by the 2011 tornado.
