CHESNEE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

For the second time in a week, authorities in the Upstate are looking for cattle rustlers - this time in Chesnee.

Chris Wilson, of the Chesnee Livestock Market, said Sunday a cow and five calves were stolen. He said the livestock are worth more than $4,700.

Wilson said he believes the theft at his stockyard is related to the theft of 26 cows from the Upstate Livestock Exchange in Anderson County last week. Those cattle were estimated to cost $20,000.

Jan Jackson with the Chesnee Livestock Market said they have some surveillance video showing the rustler pull up in a truck and trailer in broad daylight Sunday morning.

"From what we could see, it was just one man by himself doing the entire thing," Jackson said. "He knew exactly where the cows were, what to bring with him to go to the back, to be able to get the lock off our gate. He was comfortable - he was very, very comfortable rounding up the cattle."

Jackson and Marty Fulghum with Upstate Livestock Exchange said they believe the thieves know the cattle business, and may have been to their barns before.

"We all feel like it has been someone that's been in our office and talked with us, and has been a friend to us in a way, our client here. So, yeah, that hurts," Jackson said.

While both markets don't know for sure if the thefts are related, they are comparing notes.

FOX Carolina is waiting to hear back from the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, who is investigating the Chesnee theft. In the meantime, a $1,000 reward is being offered for any information leading to the discovery of the cows.
