Umass students are being asked by university officials to get a flu shot before returning to campus from winter break.
Students are set to return to campus next week.
Officials sent parents a letter notifying them of the university's preventative measures to control future outbreaks. Students are asked to stay at home if they currently have the flu until recovery.
The flu has been intense in Massachusetts this season as it has been the cause of 18 deaths.
