60-year-old Westfield bicyclist dead following crash with SUV

WESTFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

Shortly before noon Sunday, officers responded to a crash involving a 2007 Ford Explorer and a bicycle.

Police said the SUV and the bicycle were both traveling west on Western Avenue in front of Westfield State University.

They said the bicyclist, Howard Beardslee, 60, was struck by 32-year-old Brian Benoit. Both men were from Westfield.

Beardslee was transported to Noble Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The crash remains under investigation.

The Westfield Police Department is being assisted by the Massachusetts State Police.
