It's a special start to the new year for Scott Turner and his family as the 18-year veteran was sworn in as Chief at the headquarters in Three Rivers this morning.
Chief Turners said family has always been important to him. His father is why he went into the business. "He's the whole reason I've always wanted to become a fire fighter. I've never wanted anything else and that's really because of him", said Turner.
It wasn't just family supporting him today. Members of the community came out to welcome their new fire chief on this New Year's Day.
"It means a lot. On a day like today for people to get out early for something like this," said Turner.
When it comes to business, Chief Turner will be working closely with surrounding district fire departments, and fellow firemen said its something he'll do well.
"We work very well together. Responding to the public all the time with citizens. I believe he'll be a good chief and he'll be here a long time", said Captain Gary Majak.
Chief Turner can't express enough how much this day means.
"For me this position is a huge honor, I cant even explain or put it into words how much it means", said Turner. He looks forward to working with the fire chiefs in Palmer and Bondsville.
