Church bells will ring 26 times on Friday across the country and in Western Massachusetts - once for each victim of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.
At West Springfield's Mittineague Congregational Church on Westfield Street, there will also be a moment of silence at 9:30 a.m.
Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy requested the bells and a moment of silence across America on what will be the one-week anniversary of the shooting.
Residents will also light 26 candles to show support and bring the community together.
"This is open to the community, and there will not be any speeches. It's just a coming together of a remembrance and just to sort of think and pray," said Roberta Page, vigil organizer and West Springfield resident.
Those who attend Friday's ceremony will be able to sign a poster that will then be sent to Newtown.
