SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -
Springfield's casino site committee got updates from both casino operators interested in the city at their meeting Monday night.
MGM Resorts International and Penn National Gaming representatives answered questions from the committee ranging from traffic concerns to a casino's possible impact on local businesses.
All interested casino operators must submit their application and $400,000 fee to the state gaming commission by Jan. 15.
The committee says until that time they'll have a lot to do.
"We're going to be looking at the possibility of doing some site visits... looking at some of the sites they're currently operating in and get a perspective of how are they operating in some of their cities, what are the impacts on the municipalities they're currently working in," said committee member and City Council President James Ferrera.
MGM and Penn National will lay out their entire traffic plans at a meeting in the first week of Jan.
