A man who went to court to fight a traffic ticket somehow wound up on another man's jury.
CBS 3's media partners MassLive.com and The Republican report that the man went to the Hampden Hall of Justice in Springfield in early December to fight a traffic violation. The man, who spoke very little English, ended up following a group of jurors back into a courtroom after their lunch break.
The unidentified man allegedly sat in on the assault trial of Daniel Campbell, 29, of Springfield. He wasn't discovered by court officials until jury deliberations began later that afternoon. Other jury members allegedly did not even realize the man was not part of their group.
The judge in that case immediately declared a mistrial. Campbell will receive a new trial, which is set to begin on March 27, 2013.
Court officials say they have revamped they way court officers check in jurors following recesses.
