PEORIA, AZ (CBS5) -

A citizen's tip has helped police investigators identify the suspect wanted for an attempted robbery of a Peoria Walgreens store on Dec. 7.

The man captured on surveillance video has been identified as 44-year-old George Mendoza. His whereabouts are still unknown.

Peoria police detectives said Mendoza is currently on parole for a previous armed robbery and has a felony warrant for a parole violation.

Mendoza left the store without any money after the clerk was unable to open the cash register, police said.

The would-be robber walked into the store near 75th and Peoria avenues Friday about 9 p.m.

He gave the clerk a note demanding money. The clerk became upset and was not able to open the register, forcing the man to leave the store empty-handed, police said.

The suspect was caught on the store's surveillance video. He is described as Hispanic. He is between 5'5" to 5'9" tall and weighs between 175 to 210 pounds.

He has brown hair, brown eyes and a bald spot on the top of his head. The suspect also has a tear drop tattoo under his left eye and an unknown tattoo on right side and left side of his neck.

The video shows the suspect got into the passenger side of possibly a 2006 to 2009, four-door KIA Sorento that is gray or silver. The SUV also has an unidentifiable white sticker on the right side of the rear window.

People who can identify the suspect are asked to call the Peoria Police Department's tip line at 623-773-7045.
