In a press release, the Northampton Police Department confirmed that it was a fatal crash that shut down part of Mount Tom Road for several hours Friday night.
The statement said that two passenger vehicles collided when the northbound vehicle crossed over into the southbound lane.
The driver, and only occupant, of the northbound vehicle was taken to Cooley Dickinson Hospital where they were pronounced dead.
The driver, and only occupant, of the southbound vehicle was also taken to Cooley Dickinson Hospital to be treated for apparent minor injuries.
The northbound driver has not been identified, as police wait to notify next of kin.
Police said the southbound driver is a 29-year-old female from Easthampton.
The crash remains under investigation.
