PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Police have arrested a man in the death of a Phoenix teenager who was found unconscious inside her burning home.

Tashawn Treyvon Cheatham, 19, was taken into custody, according to Sgt. Tommy Thompson.

Officials say he is a family friend who was told to leave the house by 13-year-old Briana Naylor's mother when she left for work. Detectives believe he is responsible for her death and that he also started the fires in the house. He is also being charged with theft because he stole the family dog and sold it.

Briana was found unconscious inside a burning home Thursday morning after a fire was reported by a neighbor about 9:40 a.m. in the home on East Pierson Street in the area of Camelback Road and 12th Street.

Jonathon Jacobs of the Phoenix Fire Department said the girl was unconscious when she was found and went into full cardiac arrest.

She later died at the hospital.

A fire department spokesman said the girl was healthy and should have been able to get out of the house on her own.

CBS 5 News spoke with Briana's aunt, who said Briana lived with her mother and brother. Her mom was at work at the time of the fire.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.
