HOLYOKE, MA (WSHM) -

On Monday, construction on The Holyoke Library has hit two major milestones.

The library construction is now halfway complete and it also has reached the $2 million mark in its fundraising campaign.

The project needs $500,000 to meet its fundraising goal.

The ultimate goal is give Holyoke kids more educational opportunities with the new library.

"This library will have almost 40,000 square feet, whereas the old library had 25,000. The services we're really aiming at the kids to try and get the young adults and the children into the library," said Terry Plum, president of the board of directors for the Holyoke Public Library.

On Dec. 12, there will be another opportunity for people to donate towards the library fundraising campaign. Anyone who donates at this time will automatically get a raffle ticket for a car that Gary Rome, president of Gary Rome Hyundai and Kia auto dealer, will be giving away.

For more information about how to donate and the special car raffle, go to www.valleygives.razoo.com, or to www.holyokelibrary.org.
