The Secretary of State is predicting a very high voter turnout and here in the Pioneer Valley there have been some issues as a result.
At the Emerson Hall in Springfield many voters were frustrated after the polling location ran out of ballots for a short time Tuesday afternoon.
"I mean I don't understand, I mean come on there's a lot of people," said Springfield voter Alleen Raymos.
"It's frustrating," said the voting warden at Emerson Hall. "I think they just didn't realize the impact there was going to be for this election."
Several polling centers in Springfield had similar issues. The city's Election Commissioner Gladys Oyola said that they weren't expecting such a high voter turnout so early on in the day.
"We sent out 300 ballots to each polling location and by 10 o'clock this morning we needed to send out additional," said Oyola.
Over at JFK Middle School a poll worker told CBS 3 of a different mishap that left voters waiting for extended periods of time.
"It was determined that the wrong ballots for this precinct had been delivered and they had to wait for the correct ballots to be brought in," said poll worker, Caroline Murray. "It took about an hour and there was upwards of around 50 to 75 people waiting to cast their vote."
Throughout the area there were some other minor issues to pop up. The state had told locations a few days ago that some ballots may be the wrong size. Polling places in Springfield and Chicopee reported having that issue on Tuesday.
"There has been an issue in a few precincts in Ward 1 where the ballots were a millimeter off and the ballots were cast," said Oyola. "The ones that could not be cast from the machines are actually held in an auxiliary bin in the front."
"We did have one problem today this morning up at Litwin School Ward 6 area," said the city clerk in Chicopee, Keith Rattell. "We fixed it in about an hour. What we did was we brought up another machine that accepted the ballots"
Polling places have remained crowded throughout the day in Western Mass. Secretary of State William Galvin predicts that the turnout will be more than 70 percent.
