SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

A daylong police raid in the city's North End on Friday resulted in 10 arrests and the seizure of two illegally possessed handguns, 12 grams of heroin valued at approximately $7,500, $1,100 in cash and .12-gauge shotgun shells.

Massachusetts State Police said the raid was part of the C-3 policing model, which is something CBS 3 featured on our newscasts back in September.

It is a strategy that involves relationships between the police and the community.

At the time, police told CBS 3 that crime was down 68 percent in the North End.

The 10 Springfield residents arrested Friday were:

  • Savan Ward, 39, on outstanding warrants.
  • Samuel Carballo, 43, for possession of heroin with intent to distribute.
  • Daniel Zayas, 20, for domestic violence and escaping a detention facility.
  • Ossama Sageir, 55, for motor vehicle theft.
  • Felix Acevedo, 19, for drug and firearm charges.
  • A 15-year-old juvenile for drug and firearm charges.
  • Bryan Vargas, 18, for drug and firearm charges.
  • Doray-Sabel Ramirez, 38, for drug and firearm charges.
  • Osvaldo Berrios, 31, for failure to pay fines.
  • Luis Gonzales on drug possession charges.

Any of the 10 who did not receive bail will be in Springfield District Court on Monday morning.
